Child Psychology

As they develop, children need support, understanding and guidance to navigate life’s challenges. Parents, teachers, grandparents, friends, coaches and others can be amazing sources of support to help kids along their journey. Sometimes though, despite these important people’s love, dedication and effort, the challenges can seem confusing, unchanging, or intensifying, and that’s when parents need to seek professional support for their little person.

I support children and the big people in their lives in their environments

- at their homes, schools, and via telehealth (videoconferencing) in the Toowoomba (QLD) region to:

  • try to understand what is getting in the child’s way,

  • learn new skills, and

  • generate and implement effective solutions that work for everyone involved, so that children can get on with growing, learning, enjoying healthy relationships, having fun, and reaching their goals.

I use evidence-based practices,

such as the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) Model, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and Psychoeducation, in playful and creative ways and within a neuro-developmentally informed, child-centred framework.

Because a child’s systems have a big impact on their development, I also work systemically, with the child’s family, teachers, and other important adults in the child’s life (including other professionals, where appropriate), to achieve the best outcomes for the child.

Some of the reasons parents contact me for support for their child include:

  • Developmental concerns

  • Autism

  • ADHD

  • Emotion regulation challenges

  • Social struggles

  • Anxiety

I work with NDIS participants who are self- or plan-managed, clients with a GP Mental Health Care Plan, and private clients in the Toowoomba (QLD, Australia) region.

I believe

…that when we big people reserve judgement of our little people (and ourselves!), and instead approach a little person’s behaviour with curiosity, interest, and a striving for understanding and connection, significant positive change is possible.
